Program Description: A fast-paced around-the-world
look of the evolution of quilting from utilitarian purposes to works of
art presented as a timeline with photographic examples including:
-the
documented appearance of various quilt patterns
-technological
advances in the production of textiles, including materials, dyes and
printing processes
-trends in styles and fashions through the decades
with applicable mention of political and economic influences
-examples
of historic and contemporary quilts from Alabama and Mississippi in
museums around the country
-a brief look at the impact of the
documented quilt surveys in the country since Kentucky's first historic
quilt survey, and the impact that has had on the preservation and
evolution of quilting as an art form.
-a brief look at the economic
growth of quilting and fabric production as an industry world wide and
emerging trends in quilting around the world.
